Katherine joined 42 Bedford Row after successfully completing pupillage in chambers. She has a wide range of experience in civil and family law. Before joining chambers, Katherine worked as a judicial assistant to two Court of Appeal judges.
Katherine has a busy Family Law practice which covers:
She has experience representing clients up to and including the High Court, both as sole counsel and as junior counsel. She has a strong record of successfully pursuing and defending allegations of serious domestic abuse, including sexual abuse. She prides herself on providing robust and thorough representation whilst remaining approachable and empathetic during what are often very difficult circumstances for her clients.
Reported Cases
As a pupil, Katherine worked on the High Court case of A Local Authority v AG and Others [2020] EWFC 18 & [2020] EWHC 1346 (Fam) 747 (dealing with the interaction of diplomatic immunity and care proceedings).
Katherine accepts instructions in all areas of employment law with experience of working on cases involving TUPE, discrimination, equal pay and wrongful and unfair dismissal.
Katherine has recently acted as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal in a sexual misconduct case, challenging the decisions of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal.
Reported Cases
Sastry & Okpara v GMC [2021] EWCA 623
Katherine accepts instructions on behalf of both landlords (private and social) and tenants in a broad range of landlord and tenant actions. She has recently acted as junior counsel advising on the implications of evolving Government policy for resettling refugees.
Katherine also accepts instructions in TOLATA cases where the combination of her family law and property law experience proves particularly helpful.
Katherine is building a practice in all areas relating to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and other key animal welfare legislation (including the recently enacted Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022). Her experience of conducting the welfare analysis in children cases combined with her appellate level experience in disciplinary proceedings, means she is well equipped to accept instructions in this field.
We are delighted to announce the formation of our new practice area, Animal Welfare.
