Charmaine Clubb - 42 Bedford Row

Charmaine joined Chambers in 2021 following successful completion of pupillage. She accepts instructions across all of Chambers’ practice areas with a particular interest in family law. Charmaine is a strong believer in both access to justice and access to the Bar. In furtherance of those aims, she currently sits on Advocate’s Young Bar Executive Committee, and she is a Mentor for Bridging the Bar. Prior to joining Chambers, Charmaine worked as a Caseworker for Advocate, and she volunteered at Hammersmith & Fulham Law Centre advising on family law matters.

Charmaine lives in South West London. In her spare time, she enjoys food and wine, yoga, reading and travelling. In a past life, Charmaine played viola and piano at Junior Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music.

Charmaine accepts instructions in all areas of family law, including public and private children law, domestic abuse injunctions and matrimonial finance disputes. During pupillage, Charmaine spent three months observing the full spectrum of care work, including infant death, serious neglect and sexual abuse. More recently, Charmaine acted as junior counsel for the local authority in a 20-day composite final hearing where special guardianship orders were made. She has also acted for a parent in a two-day fact-finding hearing involving cross-allegations of domestic abuse.

Charmaine accepts instructions in all employment-related disputes. During pupillage, Charmaine spent three months observing a variety of employment matters, including race and disability discrimination, unfair dismissal, redundancy and whistleblowing. More recently, Charmaine acted as junior counsel for the Respondent in a 20-day whistleblowing trial. She has also acted for Claimants in a number of pro bono matters, including appearing at a strike out preliminary hearing and drafting an amendment application.

Charmaine accepts instructions on behalf of both landlords (private and social) and tenants in a broad range of landlord and tenant matters, including possession, disrepair, rent arrears, anti-social behaviour, and Environmental Protection Act 1990 prosecutions. She also advises and drafts pleadings in property disputes.

Personal Injury

Charmaine accepts instructions in claims arising out of road traffic accidents, workplace injuries and occupiers’ liability. Charmaine has appeared in a number of small claims trials, interim applications, stage 3 hearings and infant settlement approval hearings. She also accepts instructions to draft pleadings and advise on liability and quantum in personal injury matters.
